The Delta 50-850 is a recent entry into the single stage Dust Collector market. Delta rates the 50-850 at 1200 CFM air flow, 1-1/2 HP. The following comparison shows some interesting test results.
|
| Feature | JET DC-1200 | Delta 50-850 | JET Advantages |
| Net Weight | 143 lbs. | 100 lbs. | JET's 43 lbs. heavier |
| Static Pressure | 9.5" of water | 7.8" of water | JET's has 20% more powerful suction |
| Air Speed | 16.4 ft/sec | 13 ft/sec | JET's 26% more air flow |
| Motor |
2HP 20.6 Amps at 115V* 10.3 Amps at 230V |
1-1/2HP 12 Amps at 115V 6 Amps at 230V |
JET's motor is 71 % more powerful motor comparing Amps |
| Motor Shaft | 24mm | 19mm | JET's 26% thicker |
| Motor Lamination | 160 dia x 90 length | 140 dia x 90 length | JET's 14% stronger |
| Fan Diameter | 12" | 10" | JET's 20% larger |
| Blade Thickness | 3mm | 2.5mm | JET's 20% thicker |
| Fan Balance Rate | .3 grams/sqr. inch | 1 gram/sqr. inch | Less weight is better to balance |
| Base Material Thickness | 2mm thick | 1.5mm thick | JET's 33% thicker metal base |
| Fan Housing | Stiff cover with rubber pad seal | Thin cover without rubber | |
| Welding Seams | Silicone sealed to prevent leaks | No filler, could leak | |
| Dust Chute | Clean tooled plastic | Rough, hand formed sheet metal | |
| Filter Bag | Sewn in elastic | No elastic | JET's elastic makes putting bag on collector easier |
| Bag Filtration | 30 Micron | 50 Micron | JET's 66% better dust control |
| Actual CFM | 1200 | 960 | JET's 25% more CFM |
| Fit and Finish | Powder coated, smooth rolled edges | Painted, sharp edges | Overall fit and finish goes to JET |
NOTE: Concerning the 50-850 motor that Delta rates at 1-1/2 HP. Delta's 14" closed stand bandsaw draws 13.4 Amps at 115 volts and is rated at 1HP. JET's 650 CFM, 1HP dust collector draws 11.5 Amps at 115 volts. The Delta 50-850 motor going by Amps draw of 12 Amps, puts it closer to 1HP.
* JET does not recommend any motor 2HP and up be run on 115 voltage (only 230 volt - large HP motors draw less Amps, run cooler and last longer at 230 volts).
This test comparison shows that the Delta 50-850 has a smaller motor, a smaller diameter fan blade, less CFM (960 in this test) and is 43 lbs. lighter than the JET DC-1200. But the Delta's 50-850 is cheaper, so I guess the old adage is true, you get what you pay for.
Now the Challenge:
If Delta questions our test results and is willing to do a similar test comparing the JET DC-1200 stock #708622 to their 50-850 dust collector I'll be happy to put it up on this web site for all to read. Stay tuned!!
** It would be nice if one of the major wood magazines would pick up on this and do an independent test.
The last rating we had for the Delta 50-850 was approx. 960 CFM which would put it more intor the class with JET's DC-1100. Both power and price wise.
